 Morale: Rolling

Look who just rumbled past the 15k milestone! :)

I'm kind of tired. Will reply to comments and do my usual journal comment round tomorrow. *stretches*

River is starting to be repeatedly bullied by a lot of people. We're going to have to have that talk about Not Being A Wimp again.

anghard's post inspired a lot of thought from me. More on this tomorrow, I need to sleep.

I think it's excerpt time. Here you go.

Mind you, this is about Ochre. Have you met her yet? I'll post another excerpt tomorrow if you haven't, just so you can get acquainted properly.
 (start excerpt)

She was going to die.
They were going to stick a knife in her stomach and she was going to die.
She’d bleed all over the dirt.
Actually she wouldn’t. She’d bleed a bit. Then she would evaporate and become a firefly or a tree or something. The Orang Bunyian believed that you should go out with style and a lot less effort for everyone else.
This made things like cremations and burials totally unnecessary, but it did raise some problems when it came down to the timber and furniture industry. You never knew whether you were trying to make some nice matching chairs out of your grandmother.
Would dying hurt?
Eventually… would it hurt?
Ochre sat there and thought about it.
Well, obviously it would hurt. It would be like running a red-hot poker through her brain. Anyone run through with a sword could tell her that, but only for a little while before they started to choke and make alarming gargling noises like ‘arrgaaaagk’.
She was not going to die. Not if she had anything to say about it.

Yep! :)

Hah. That's the lesser writer's excuse for not being able to properly depict emotions on faces. If I was a really great writer, I'd be able to condense all those conversations into a single expression, but alas I'm still a noob. So that's how my wordcount grows.

I don't know about that. Real people don't think in single expressions. We throw together a stream of thoughts, gathering information for our brains to process. Writing it out that way is probaly more insightful and real than, "Ochre was alarmed."
